Lettering Styles

At Gramke Monument Works, Inc., we offer the following standard lettering styles:  Sandblast Modified Roman Letters, Polished Raised Letters, Polished Edge Letters, Polished Outline Letters, Frosted Outline Lettering and Frosted Sunk Letters. There are also other styles of lettering that we have occassionally used:  Shadow Outline Letters, Panel Raised Letters, and Frosted Edge Letters.
Inscriptions in Modified Roman Sandblast Letters are typically inscribed in a frosted  panel. A panel is where the polished has been removed and the letters are blasted down in.  A standard panel would be a rectangular box surrounding the inscription.  Other types of panels used are books, scrolls and ribbons.  This style of lettering leaves a lighter contrast. This contrast makes the lettering and carvings stand out.
Inscriptions in Polished Raised Letters are inscribed in a frosted panel.  The letters are raised and left polished.  This style of lettering leaves a lighter contrast.  This contrast makes the lettering and carvings stand out.

Inscriptions in Frosted Outline Letters are inscribed in a frosted panel.  An edge of polished is left around each letter.  This style of lettering leaves a lighter contrast.  This contrast makes the lettering and carvings stand out.

Inscriptions in Polished Outline Letters are inscribed in a frosted panel.  An outline of polish surrounds each letter.  This style of lettering leaves a lighter contrast.  This contrast makes the lettering and carvings stand out.
Inscriptions in Frosted Outline Letters the letters are frosted.  The background remains polished.  This type of lettering is not inscribed in a panel.   This style of lettering is typically used when the desire is to leave most of the polished surface on the memorial. The only draw back is that it is a broader letter and takes up more space on the memorial.
Inscriptions in Frosted Sunk Letters are inscribed skin-deep.  They do not require a frosted panel leaving the background surface polished.  This type of lettering is typically used when the desire is to leave most of polished surface on the memorial.  However, this style of lettering does not show up well on all granites since the lettering is not inscribed very deeply.
